Methodology

How the score works

Seven metrics, one honest number. Each platform earns a 0-10 grade per metric, and the weights below turn those grades into the 0-100 PlatformScore. Same rubric for all 20 platforms, including the ones that pay us nothing.

That bar is the whole formula: multiply each grade by its slice, add them up, and you have the score. Pick a trader profile in the tool and these slices re-balance live. Tap any slice to rank the platforms by that metric.

The weights are our editorial judgment, public and overridable, and never influenced by affiliate deals, including the prop-firm links on our platform pages. Read the full methodology →

Frequently asked

What is PlatformScore, and how is it calculated?

PlatformScore is a single 0-100 rating for each futures trading platform, built from seven weighted categories, value, order flow, automation, ease of use, broker/data compatibility, prop-firm support, and community. You can re-weight it for your own trading style so the ranking reflects your priorities.

Do affiliate commissions affect the rankings?

No. Every platform is scored on the same public rubric, including ones that pay us nothing (e.g. Sierra Chart). We earn affiliate commissions on some platforms, brokers, and tools, but that never changes a score.

Which platform is best for my trading style?

Use the trader-profile toggle in the rankings tool, Scalper, Algo/Systematic, or Prop-Challenge. It re-weights the score toward what matters for that style: order flow for scalpers, automation for algo traders, prop-firm fit and value for challenge traders.

How often is the data updated?

Platform prices are re-checked automatically every month, and scores and reviews are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Each platform shows a last-verified date so you know how fresh its data is.

What do the connection types mean (Rithmic, Tradovate, broker-locked)?

They describe how a platform connects to prop firms. “Rithmic (broad)” platforms work with 15+ firms; “Tradovate” ones work with several; “broker-locked” platforms only work with their own broker. It's often the real deciding factor for prop traders.

Is a free platform always the best value?

Not necessarily. Many “free” platforms require a funded broker account and paid data feeds, so the true all-in cost is higher than it looks. The Value score reflects total cost of ownership, not just the sticker price.
